MGM are once more delighted to announce a new addition to the team and this week it is the 2013 Irish Senior Bantamweight Champion, Declan Geraghty. Declan will be turning pro after a very successful amateur career which saw him winning 12 Irish Championships.
Geraghty from Dublin has boxing in his blood; his father is a coach and he has been lacing on the gloves for as long as he can remember. He started out with Dublin Docklands and won 10 National championships but has more recently been with the Crumlin Boxing Club with saw him win a further two titles.
These formed part of a highly accomplished amateur career. With over 250 amateur fights under his belt and a place in the last 16 of the World Championships and last 8 of the European, he his also a silver medalist at the EU Championships.
The 23-year old has now decided to turn pro with MGM. He will be trained by Seamus Macklin and managed by Daniel Kinahan. After visiting MGM Geraghty just knew it was where he wanted to further his career, “It just clicked straight away, I got on great with everyone,” explains Declan “my trainer, my manager, we want the same things and there are other great boxers there who I can learn from.”
He has his sights firmly set on success; he has a plan and with a few fights lined up in the coming months Geraghty seems well on his way to the top. “ We want to go all the way and I think me and my team can but we have to take small steps first.” It is the beginning of an exciting journey and MGM are very pleased to be in on it, there are sure to be great times ahead.
